Massapequa is a hamlet home in Oyster Bay on the South Shore of Long Island. The hamlet received its name from the American Indian tribe which translates roughly to mean wetlands. The first European settlers came to the area in the 18th century and created the community.
Massapequa School District serves the community with six elementary schools, one middle school, and two high schools. The hamlet offers a variety of shops, restaurants, and businesses including a wide array of churches with various denominations including Lutheran, Episcopal, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Nazarene. The close knit community is perfect for families. The most popular attractions that residents and guests both enjoy are the two beaches; Florence Avenue and Tobay which is home to the JFK Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary. The two parks in Massapequa are also frequented by residents which are the Marjorie R. Post Community Park and the John J. Burns Town Park.
